Wigram and Ware is an independent optometry practice dedicated to exceptional eye care. Established in 1959, our practice is now led by Jennifer Morigi and Stuart Andrews, we have proudly served the Bury St. Edmunds community for over six decades. Since 1974, our practice has been located in Central Walk, where we continue to provide expert eye health services.
We specialise in high-quality eye care, offering a wide range of spectacles, sunglasses, and contact lenses to suit every lifestyle and vision need. As experienced optometrists and contact lens practitioners, we are committed to delivering personalised, professional care in a welcoming environment.
State of the art equipment
At Wigram and Ware, we are proud to be one of the few opticians in town equipped with an Optopol OCT scanner. This advanced technology allows us to monitor your eye health with exceptional detail, enabling us to detect and address changes much earlier—before they become a concern.
We also use the Henson 8000 Field Analyser, a gold-standard tool for detecting and monitoring visual field defects, ensuring precise and reliable assessments of your vision.
For contact lens fitting and dry eye assessments, our Antares Corneal Topographer/Tear Film Interpreter plays a vital role in identifying and managing conditions that affect your eye comfort and vision clarity.
Our spacious and welcoming dispensing area showcases a carefully curated selection of spectacle frames from around the world. Under the expert guidance of Jennifer and Tracey, we handpick unique, high-quality designs to suit every style. We take pride in offering a truly bespoke service, ensuring the perfect frame design and fit, with all dispensing carried out by fully qualified staff.
When it comes to spectacle lenses, we are committed to providing the very best solutions for your needs. Whether you require simple single-vision lenses or the latest in varifocal technology, we offer a tailored approach to suit your lifestyle. Our Hoya ID Mystyle varifocal lenses can be customised to achieve the ideal balance between distance and close vision for your specific requirements.
Eye examinations and contact lenses
We have three fully equipped consulting rooms, including one conveniently located on the ground floor. Each room is fitted with state-of-the-art technology for thorough eye examinations and precise contact lens fittings.
Our standard eye examination is a comprehensive one-hour assessment, conducted entirely by our highly qualified opticians, all of whom are registered with the General Optical Council. We are committed to ongoing professional development, regularly attending seminars across the country and staying up to date with the latest advancements in optical research and technology.
As members of the British Contact Lens Association, our opticians are experts in contact lens care. Wigram and Ware is proud to be an Acuvue Centre of Excellence, reflecting our dedication to providing the best possible contact lens solutions. We continuously expand our knowledge through conferences and training days, ensuring we offer a fully comprehensive range of lenses from all major manufacturers

Jennifer Morigi FBDO
Senior Partner, Registered Dispensing & Contact Lens Optician
Jennifer’s four decade tenure represents the continuity and legacy of Wigram and Ware. Jennifer is a Suffolk native and has served the practice since 1983, being trained by her father Ronald Hart and becoming the senior partner, upon his retirement in 2010. In addition to her role as senior partner Jennifer’s professional expertise spans several specialties. Jennifer is passionate about continuing to drive to use of the latest technology across the Wigram and Ware practice. Professionally she is a fully qualified dispensing optician and contact lens specialist and has a particular interest in dyslexia support, particularly for young children. Her role as senior partner and dispensing optician naturally extends to sourcing spectacles and sunglasses for the practice. Jennifer and her husband Nick regularly travel throughout Europe in search of exciting new spectacle frame collections. Jennifer's combination of knowledge and experience positions her as a bridge between Wigram and Ware's founding generation, maintaining the traditional values of integrity and personal service, whilst embracing the latest cutting edge technology.
Stuart Andrews BSc(Hons) MCOptom
Partner, Optometrist & Contact Lens Practioner
Stuart is an experienced Optometrist who has been a key member of the practice since joining as a pre registration optician in 1998. He qualified in 1999 and became a Partner in 2002, contributing to the continued growth and clinical excellence of the business. He is skilled in all areas of Optometry and dedicates much of his time to providing comprehensive, hour long eye examinations using cutting edge technology. Stuart works closely with Jennifer and Tracey to ensure every patient receives tailored optical solutions that best meet their needs. He has particular expertise in contact lenses, colourimetry, and pre and post cataract assessments.
Melanie Steele BSc(Hons) MCOptom
Optometrist & Contact Lens Practioner
Melanie is an experienced optometrist with a long-standing commitment to delivering high quality patient care. She began her career with the practice in 1987 as a pre registration optician, benefiting from the expert mentorship of Mr Hart. His focus on technological innovation and advanced contact lens fitting helped shape her professional interests and laid the foundation for her career in optometry. Melanie is skilled in all aspects of clinical practice, including contact lens fitting and aftercare, colorimetry, and myopia control. She is dedicated to understanding and meeting each patient’s individual visual needs and appreciates the opportunity to do so via Wigram and Wares full one hour eye exam appointments. She takes great satisfaction in seeing patients leave with improved vision, often wearing a beautiful new pair of spectacles. Melanie has a particular interest in the treatment and management of dry eye disease and is highly experienced in the use of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy for dry eye management.
Tracy Hanratta
Receptionist & Contact Lens Manager, Patient Liason Manager
Tracy Hanratta will be your primary point of contact within the practice and on the telephone. Tracy brought years of clerical experience to Wigram and Ware when she joined us in June 2003 and we have benefited from her expertise ever since. As existing patients will already appreciate, Tracy will always go the extra mile when it comes to arranging the most convenient appointments and also dealing efficiently and sympathetically with any patient concerns. Very much ‘a people person’ Tracy enjoys her interactions with our patients both new and old and, amazingly, is now meeting and greeting her 3rd generation of family patients.
Emily Maris
Accounts & Website Manager, Receptionist
We were delighted when Emily joined our team at Wigram and Ware in 2018. She has extensive experience in accountancy but is also something of a multi tasker. In addition to her main responsibility assisting in managing our accounts, Emily also maintains our amazing website, making sure that it’s always up-to-date and populated with beautiful images. She also answers the telephone, schedules appointments and helps Tracy at the reception desk as and when needed. Together Tracy and Emily form our reception and clerical ‘A Team’.
Tracey Garnham FBDO
Registered Dispensing Optician
Tracey Garnham is the latest addition to the Wigram and Ware team, joining us in 2020 and bringing with her over 30 years experience in the optical profession. Starting as an optical receptionist in 1988 Tracey worked her way up and qualified as a Dispensing Optician in December 1995. She is passionate about frame styling and loves being able to dispense the beautiful frames that Wigram and Ware offer; also being able to do so in a relaxed low pressure environment, giving her the time to be able to help provide our clients with the perfect style and fit together with the best optical solution for their needs.
